The allegations were unsubstantiated as the Codex Alimentarius Commission (CAC), the international body set up under the joint FAO/ WHO Expert Committee on Food Additives (JECFA) had verified that the substance was safe to use and has allowed the usage of not exceeding 75mg/kg in wheat flour. In fact, we have complied with the Food Regulations 1985 (PPM 1985) enforced by the authorities, which has even stricter requirement permitting lower BP usage of not exceeding 50mg/kg as a food additive. Additionally, our consumer packs and majority of our flour for industrial are BP free.
The Ministry of Health (MOH) has given the assurance that the use of BP in wheat flour is safe and permitted according to Food Regulations 1985 under the Food Act 1983. The links to the MOH statements and press clippings are available as follows:
